In a hospital the savings over the total consumption in an Efficiency Scenario are about 80% compared with the BAU Scenario. This percentage increases when savings in HVAC are considered, which, in the coldest winter sites, reach 98%. The reduction in demand is due to the use of adequate insulation and the great efficiency of heat pumps.

 

The figure shows the final energy consumption structure in Almería and Burgos for both Scenarios. In the BAU Scenario the high demand in HVAC, heating in particular, is the most important element of the consumption structure.

 

In the context of Efficiency, HVAC consumption is greatly reduced, so that it becomes one of the less weighty components. The installations account for the main energy consumption with more than 60% of the demand structure for both provinces.
