The transition from the current situation to an Efficiency Scenario in building can be developed over time following different trajectories as intelligence and efficiency measures are introduced into the energy system. Three scenarios have been chosen: responsible, linear and delayed.
In a scenario of linear transition a consumption peak of final energy demand is reached in 2025 to the order of around 132% of the final energy demand in the building sector in 2007. In the delayed scenario this peak in consumption takes place around 2030 and is about 200% of the demand in 2007.
Only the responsible transition scenario offers a downward trend in the building sector's demand throughout the study period. This enables a gradual liberation of the energy system and, in particular, of the power system, in order to integrate other sectors, such as transport, without increasing the size of the power system, with its associated costs and environmental impact.
