Climate can have a direct effect on buildings' energy consumption and on the availability of renewable resources.


In order to incorporate this variable, the study considers the official typical meteorological years (TMY) in each one of the mainland provinces, reducing potential hydro-power production. These TMY are considered as representative not of the average climate conditions after climate change, but as representative of a certain year where the energy system would have to function in post-climate change conditions. These meteorological years that any system (building, generation power stations, etc.) will have to withstand would oscillate around this TMY throughout its lifetime.


The whole energy system must have the capacity to successfully respond to different meteorological years. The flexibility of the energy system to adapt to different trends in demand and power generation capacity is a relevant feature of an intelligent energy system.
