Thanks to efficiency the savings reached in the service sector are such that in the Efficiency Scenario they reach 83% of final energy consumption and 74% of electricity consumption when compared with the BAU Scenario. The integration of the services sector into the energy system, through total electrification, leads to lower electricity consumption in the Efficiency Scenario, even below 2007 levels.
Apart from eliminating the use of fossil fuels, integration and electrification, even in the current power system, would leave space to meet the demand of other sectors without increasing the capacity of electricity generation and distribution.
The maps show the distribution per province of the final energy consumption in both scenarios. The provinces with the highest demand in a BAU Scenario are the ones which bring together a larger use. In the Efficiency Scenario the order of provinces by demand remains the same, but the consumption is considerably reduced.
