COST OF SAVING

Another important aspect is the cost associated with efficiency deployement: the cost per megawatt. In the framework of this study we found that for most of the efficiency measures within the building industry, the cost of the megawatt is expected to fall bellow 1 eurocent-2007/kWh. And in the case of various efficiency measures, the cost of the megawatt could be negative. In other words, saving one unit of energy not only costs nothing, but is saves money.

The maximum value of the cost of saving (megawatt cost) needed to maintain the total cost in the Efficiency Scenario below the total cost of the energy system in the BAU Scenario is within the range of 15-25 eurocent-2007/kWh, a much higher value than the cost corresponding to the megawatt at the optiumum point for the vast majority of cost saving measures.
