The energy system in Energy 3.0 is an integrated one, that is to say, all energy-consuming sectors (transport, building, industry, etc.) interact, share resources and interchange energy. The best vehicle for such an integration is electricity, which must come from renewable sources.
Given the current trend of incorporating renewable energies, electrical systems with very low emission coefficients could be available very soon. Therefore, the electrification of the various energy sectors may be the fastest and most efficient way to direct them towards sustainability.
In addition, through electrification, the various energy-consuming sectors may acquire an important and active role in regulating the system when deploying the potential of demand-side management through a smart grid.
