In supermarkets the total saving in consumption in an Efficiency Scenario is approximately 84% compared to the BAU Scenario. In this case, cold winter sites have achieved levels of 97% savings in HVAC. The large reduction in the building's HVAC demand and high efficiency heat pumps are the reason for these levels of savings.

 

The graphs show the final energy consumption structure in Almería and Burgos for both Scenarios. The important impact of food refrigeration on the energy demand structure can be observed both because of its direct effect on electricity consumption and its indirect effect on heating demand. In the Efficiency Scenario a great reduction in heating consumption is achieved which, together with improvements in lighting, means refrigeration and installations dominate the structure of energy consumption.
